Values the opportunity to gain industry-standard qualifications within a welcoming environment.

Daniel Clark

I have always been interested in business and knew I wanted to pursue a career in it, but I wasn’t sure where. So, after school, I took a year out and worked in retail, which gave me time to research what sort of role I wanted before I applied here.

I’ve never been in an environment like this; it’s very supportive. Before I joined Baillie Gifford, I didn’t know what to expect. But everyone, especially at the beginning, was so welcoming towards me.

If I needed help with anything – and I did at first – I felt comfortable asking someone on my team and across my department. I was given the confidence to do that.

There are clear progression routes for those on the modern apprenticeship programme. There are always new tasks to learn and the chance to get involved in projects later.

I’ve already completed my apprenticeship qualification, and from there, I am working towards the Investment Operations Certificate and the Investment Management Certificate.

Baillie Gifford not only pays for these but supports you through them with training courses and time off to study.

Within my department, I can progress to either a client-facing or back-office role, but there’s also some flexibility.

It’s not all about work. There’s also an emphasis on the social aspects and developing yourself as a person.

While I play in the yearly 11-a-side football match, there are lots of different staff networks and activities. If you want to do something with your colleagues outside of work, there is something for everyone to join in with.
