Life at Baillie Gifford
There are many reasons why we think you'll love working here. Whether in Edinburgh or one of our international offices, we offer friendly communities and opportunities to develop your career.
A vibrant social scene
There’s plenty to keep you busy and feeling part of our lively community throughout the year. Our Edinburgh-based colleagues can take part in theatre trips, a charity quiz, a bake-off and even a family zoo day. You also get exclusive access to book festivals, the Edinburgh International Festival, ballet and opera. All international offices have local social events in place. Browse some of our main events.
Annual dinner dance
Kicking off our lively social calendar is the annual dinner dance. Held each year in February with a drinks reception, three course meal and live ceilidh band, it’s a brilliant opportunity for you to get dressed up, celebrate and bond with colleagues from all offices in a beautiful setting.
Office outing
Our June office outing is a great chance to try something new. There’s loads for you to choose from, with past activities including surfing, cookery, alpaca trekking and a spa day. The event culminates in a drinks reception, buffet and silent disco in the grounds of Edinburgh’s Gallery of Modern Art.
Christmas party
We close the year in style with our very own Christmas market. Delicious food stalls, a pick and mix station, photo booth, drinks and disco are sure to get you in the festive spirit. There’s also a raffle where you can win exciting prizes… and Santa has even been known to make an appearance.
Groups, clubs and community work
We have various groups where you can connect with staff with shared values and advocate for changes to improve your experience at work. They include our LGBT+, Multicultural, Neurodiversity and BShe (championing women at work) networks, which hold events throughout the year.
And whether you’re a keen runner, love board games or just want to share a cute picture of your pet, Baillie Gifford has a club for you. They’re started by staff, so if you have an idea we’ll give you our full support to set it up.
Teams can get involved in our community work through volunteering days or sharing their expertise. We also hold fundraising activities for our charity of the year and give staff the chance to nominate causes they care about for one-off donations.
Edinburgh and beyond
Edinburgh is an amazing city, and if you join us, you'll be at the heart of it. The bustling city centre is just a five-minute walk from our office, with easy access to major bus routes, train stations and the tram link.
The capital is not only famous worldwide for its history and beauty but it’s also the UK's largest financial centre outside London – a global commercial hub.
With a fantastic cosmopolitan culture which includes the world’s biggest arts festival, for quality of life, we don’t think it can be beaten.
Diversity, inclusion and Baillie Gifford
Our people are our greatest strength. Diversity and inclusion isn’t just a tick-box exercise for us; it’s an integral part of our business model. We look for people with a range of different experiences, as they strengthen our workplace. The Diversity and Inclusion group works closely with employee-led networks, which are open to all staff. These act as a platform for sharing ideas, which helps to grow our inclusive culture.
