Client manager programme

Invest in a new career.

This programme will open for applications in early 2025.

How to apply

We will be open and honest with you at every stage of the process, whilst giving you the opportunity to ask questions, providing a clear idea of what it's like to work at Baillie Gifford.

Our general application resources should help guide you through the process in more detail.

Stage 1

Tell us about you.

To get started, you need to complete a short online application form, answer two questions, and attach your CV. You will receive an automated response when you submit your application to confirm that we have received it.

Stage 2

Let’s meet.

We will start reviewing applications after the role has closed. If you are successful, you’ll then be invited for a first interview with two of our Client Directors, and a member of the HR team. These first-stage interviews will be conducted over Zoom.

We’ll discuss the career choices you’ve made so far, as well as our own interests.

Stage 3

Prove your potential.

Following a successful first interview you will be invited to the second stage, which will be in our office in Edinburgh.

This final stage is more in depth. Along with further meetings with senior members of staff, you’ll also have the chance to meet different members of the teams you might join – from partners to managers who also joined on the training scheme.

Application tips

Presentation

  • Always ensure your application is tailored to the role. It's easy to spot when someone has just copied and pasted key details from a generic application.
  • Always do a spell-check to avoid typos.
  • Be as concise as possible and use clear, simple language.
  • Try to present your application in a creative way. Does it engage the reader and make them want to find out more about you?

Content

  • Get to know our business and our Shared Beliefs. Can you explain in a simple sentence what Baillie Gifford does? Our investment beliefs series may be a useful place to start.
  • Demonstrate passion for your hobbies and interests, regardless of what they are. Even if you don’t think your obsession with model trains is relevant, we want to hear about it!
  • Talk about your work experience and part-time jobs, whether they are in our industry or not, often you’ll have gained valuable transferable skills.
  • Show us you recognise the character traits and values required for the programme you’re applying for, as well as the relevant knowledge you have gained.
  • Don’t be afraid to comment on experiences that did not go well. Not everything has to be perfect and often the best life lessons come from our mistakes.
  • When you’ve finished your application, ask someone you trust to give you an honest opinion on it.

Key skills

  • Show us your willingness to learn and develop. We're looking for a growth mindset.
  • Give us examples of how you've been proactive and taken on new challenges.
  • Share examples of extra responsibilities outside your studies.
  • Show us how you've had exposure to a range of people and experiences.
