Cherry has over 20 years’ experience working for a range of national, consumer and trade titles including The Times, Financial Times, The Telegraph, The Independent, Interactive Investor, Forbes and Investors Chronicle. She has co-authored a book on investing in emerging markets and is a six-time winner of the Investment Management Association’s Freelance Journalist of the Year award and eight-time winner of the AIC Freelance Journalist of The Year award. She began her career as a tax accountant for PricewaterhouseCoopers, before moving to investment bank J.P. Morgan.

Claire joined Baillie Gifford in 2019 as an Investment Specialist for the Scottish Mortgage Investment Trust. Prior to this since 2014, she was a Portfolio Manager of European Small and Mid Caps at SYZ Asset Management and previously spent six years at Franklin Templeton on the European Equities team. Claire holds a First Class MA (Honours) degree in Geography from the University of Aberdeen and a Masters (MSc) in Research from the University of Edinburgh.

James is head of Global Income Growth and co-manager of the Scottish American Investment Company, as well as a member of the Portfolio Construction Group for the Sustainable Income Strategy. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2004 and became a partner in the firm in 2023. Prior to this he was an investment manager in our US Equities Team. Before joining the firm, he spent three years at The Scotsman, where he was economics editor. James is a CFA Charterholder. He graduated MA (Hons) in Economics and Philosophy from the University of St Andrews in 2000 and MSc in Development Studies from the London School of Economics in 2001.

Matthew is an investment manager in the Japanese Equities Team. He is a manager of the Japan All Cap Strategy, the Baillie Gifford Japan Trust and co-manager of the Japanese Income Growth Strategy. He joined Baillie Gifford in 2003 and became a partner of the firm in 2018. Matthew graduated BA (Hons) in Natural Sciences (Psychology) from the University of Cambridge in 2000 and holds a PhD in Psychology from the University of Bristol.
